Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs (900g) Russet potatoes
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) olive oil or vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) salt
  • ½ teaspoon (2.5 ml) garlic powder (optional)
  • ¼ teaspoon (1.25 ml) paprika (optional)
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Cold water

Instructions:

  1. Peel potatoes (if desired). Cut into uniform ½-inch thick fries.
  2. Place cut fries in a large bowl and cover with cold water. Soak for at least 30 minutes (or up to 2 hours).
  3. Drain the fries well and pat them completely dry with paper towels.
  4. In a large bowl, toss the dried fries with olive oil (or vegetable oil), salt, garlic powder (if using), paprika (if using), and black pepper. Ensure they're evenly coated.
  5. Preheat air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for 5 minutes. Arrange fries in a single layer in the air fryer basket. You may need to cook in batches.
  6. Cook for 10 minutes, then shake the basket well to redistribute the fries. Cook for another 10-15 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy, shaking occasionally.
  7. Remove the fries from the air fryer and serve immediately.
