Ingredients:
- 6 cups peeled and sliced Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples
- 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
- 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp salt
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice to prevent browning.
- Stir in the brown sugar, cinnamon, cornstarch, and salt until every slice is coated in a sandy cinnamon mixture.
- Transfer the apples into the baking dish, spreading them evenly to ensure consistent cooking.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
- Add the cold, cubed butter. Using a pastry cutter or your fingertips, rub the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs with some pea-sized chunks of butter remaining.
- Sprinkle the crumble evenly over the apple layer without pressing it down.
- Bake for 35-45 minutes until the topping is a deep mahogany color and the apple juices are bubbling vigorously around the edges.
