Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1 teaspoon anise seeds (or 1/2 teaspoon anise extract)
  • 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar for dusting
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon for dusting

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and anise seeds.
  3. In a separate bowl, beat softened butter until creamy. Gradually add the sugar, mixing until light and fluffy.
  4. Add egg and vanilla to the butter mixture and mix well.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
  7. On a floured surface, roll out chilled dough to 1/4-inch thickness.
  8. Use a cookie cutter to cut shapes and place them on a lined or greased cookie sheet.
  9. In a small bowl, mix sugar and cinnamon for dusting.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.
  11. Allow cookies to cool slightly, then dust with sugar-cinnamon mixture before serving.
