Ingredients:
- 6 cups Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples, peeled and sliced 1/4 inch thick
- 1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup dark brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp salt
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice, light brown sugar, cinnamon, salt, and cornstarch until evenly coated in syrup.
- Pour the apple mixture into a 9x9 inch baking dish or cast iron skillet, spreading them flat.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the rolled oats, all-purpose flour, dark brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
- Add the cold, cubed butter to the oat mixture. Use a pastry cutter or fingertips to work the butter in until pea-sized lumps form.
- Sprinkle the crumble evenly over the apple layer, leaving a small gap at the edges.
- Bake for 45–55 minutes, or until the fruit juices are bubbling and the topping is a deep mahogany gold.
