Ingredients:

  • 8 cups day-old bread, cubed (about 12 ounces / 340 grams)
  • 2 cups whole milk (480 ml)
  • 1 cup heavy cream (240 ml)
  • 3 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar (150 grams)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup raisins (150 grams)
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, for greasing baking dish

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cube the day-old bread into bite-sized pieces and place in a large bowl.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the milk, cream, eggs, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt.
  4. Pour the wet mixture over the cubed bread and gently fold in the raisins.
  5. Let the mixture sit for at least 30 minutes to allow bread to soak.
  6. Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter.
  7. Pour the soaked bread mixture into the prepared dish, spreading evenly.
  8. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a knife inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Allow to cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
