Ingredients:
- 1 lb (450 g) ground beef (80% lean)
- 1 cup (100 g) fresh bread crumbs (or 3 slices of bread, crusts removed)
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup (75 g) onion, finely chopped
- 1/2 cup (75 g) bell pepper, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) milk
- 1 tsp (5 g) Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp (5 g) salt
- 1/2 tsp (2 g) black pepper
- 1/2 tsp (2 g) dried thyme (optional)
- 1/3 cup (80 ml) ketchup
- 2 tbsp (30 g) brown sugar
- 1 tbsp (15 ml) apple cider vinegar
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- If using slices, tear them into small pieces to create crumbs.
- In a skillet, lightly sauté the onion, bell pepper, and garlic until softened; set aside to cool.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, cooled sautéed vegetables, egg, milk, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and thyme (if using).
- Using your hands, mix the ingredients until just combined (avoid overmixing).
- Transfer the mixture to a loaf pan and shape it evenly.
- In a small bowl, combine ketchup, brown sugar, and apple cider vinegar.
- Spread a layer of glaze over the top of the meatloaf.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).
- Let the meatloaf rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
