Ingredients:
- Sufficient ice to fill glass (cubed or crushed)
- 1 fl oz (30 ml) high-quality Grenadine Syrup
- 6–8 fl oz (180–240 ml) chilled Soda Base (Ginger Ale, Lemon-Lime Soda, or a 50/50 mix)
- 2-3 stemmed Maraschino Cherries, for garnish
- 1 thin wheel Orange Slice, for garnish
Instructions:
- If possible, chill the serving glass (Highball or Collins) in the freezer for 5 minutes. Then, add ice cubes or crushed ice to completely fill the chilled glass.
- Pour the measured grenadine syrup (1 fl oz) directly over the ice. Adding the syrup first allows it to settle and create the dramatic color gradient as the soda is added.
- Slowly and gently pour the chilled Ginger Ale or soda base (6–8 fl oz) down the side of the glass. Pouring slowly minimizes foam and retains maximum carbonation (fizz).
- Allow the drink to sit for 30 seconds, letting the dense syrup slowly migrate upwards, creating the signature ruby cloud.
- Optional Gentle Stir: If immediate colour mixing is desired, give one swift, minimal rotation with a bar spoon. Do not over-agitate the mixture.
- Garnish: Spear two or three maraschino cherries onto a cocktail pick or simply drop them into the glass.
- Final Touch: Add the thin orange slice to the rim of the glass or slip it gently into the drink.
- Serve immediately with a straw.
