Instructions:
- Gather all ingredients and equipment.
- In a large mixing bowl, vigorously whisk the eggs and sugar until the mixture is pale and slightly thickened.
- Gradually pour in the milk and heavy cream, whisking continuously until well combined.
- Stir in the vanilla extract, ground nutmeg, and a pinch of salt.
- If desired, blend in the rum or bourbon for a spirited version.
- Transfer the eggnog to a pitcher or bowl, cover, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to allow flavors to meld.
