Ingredients:

  • 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon (14g) baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon (5g) salt
  • 1 tablespoon (12g) granulated sugar (optional)
  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 3/4 cup (180ml) milk (whole or buttermilk preferred)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar (if using).
  3. Add the cold, cubed butter. Use a pastry cutter or two forks to cut the butter into the flour mix until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Gradually stir in the milk until the dough comes together. Do not overmix!
  5. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead 2-3 times until smooth.
  6. Roll or pat to about 1-inch thickness.
  7. Use a biscuit cutter or round cutter to cut out biscuits. Gather scraps and re-roll if necessary.
  8. Place biscuits on a baking sheet lined with parchment and bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown on top.
  9. Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving.
