Ingredients:
- 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon (14g) baking powder
- 1 teaspoon (5g) salt
- 1 tablespoon (12g) granulated sugar (optional)
- 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 3/4 cup (180ml) milk (whole or buttermilk preferred)
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C).
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar (if using).
- Add the cold, cubed butter. Use a pastry cutter or two forks to cut the butter into the flour mix until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Gradually stir in the milk until the dough comes together. Do not overmix!
- Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead 2-3 times until smooth.
- Roll or pat to about 1-inch thickness.
- Use a biscuit cutter or round cutter to cut out biscuits. Gather scraps and re-roll if necessary.
- Place biscuits on a baking sheet lined with parchment and bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown on top.
- Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving.
