Ingredients:
- 4 lbs apples, peeled, cored, and chopped (e.g., Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a mix)
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice (to prevent browning)
Instructions:
- Wash, peel, core, and chop the apples. Place chopped apples into a large saucepan.
- Add water, sugar, ground cinnamon, and lemon juice to the apples.
- Heat over medium heat. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat and simmer for about 30 minutes, or until apples are soft.
- Remove from heat. Use a potato masher or immersion blender to reach desired consistency (smooth or chunky).
- Taste and add more sugar if needed. If desired, add more cinnamon for additional flavor.
- Allow the applesauce to cool. Transfer to jars or containers and store in the refrigerator.
