Ingredients:

  • 4 lbs apples, peeled, cored, and chopped (e.g., Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a mix)
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (to prevent browning)

Instructions:

  1. Wash, peel, core, and chop the apples. Place chopped apples into a large saucepan.
  2. Add water, sugar, ground cinnamon, and lemon juice to the apples.
  3. Heat over medium heat. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat and simmer for about 30 minutes, or until apples are soft.
  4. Remove from heat. Use a potato masher or immersion blender to reach desired consistency (smooth or chunky).
  5. Taste and add more sugar if needed. If desired, add more cinnamon for additional flavor.
  6. Allow the applesauce to cool. Transfer to jars or containers and store in the refrigerator.
