Ingredients:

  • 1 pound (450g) ground beef (80/20 blend recommended)
  • 1 teaspoon (5g) salt
  • ½ teaspoon (2g) black pepper
  • 4 slices of cheddar cheese (or cheese of your choice)
  • 4 hamburger buns (preferably brioche or sesame)
  • ½ cup (120ml) mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon (5g) sugar
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, apple cider vinegar, sugar, and minced garlic. Whisk until smooth. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until combined, being careful not to overwork the meat. Divide mixture into 4 equal portions and shape into patties, slightly larger than the buns.
  3. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat (approximately 375-400°F or 190-200°C).
  4. Place patties on the grill and cook for 5-6 minutes per side, or until internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C). In the last minute of cooking, add cheese slices to melt over the patties.
  5. If desired, place hamburger buns cut-side down on the grill for the last minute until toasted.
  6. Spread a generous amount of tangy sauce on the bottom half of each bun. Add the grilled cheeseburger patty, top with additional sauce, and cover with the top bun.
