Ingredients:

  • 4 cups (960 ml) whole milk
  • 2 oz (60 g) dark chocolate (70% cocoa or higher), chopped
  • 2 tablespoons (30 g) sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1-2 teaspoons chili powder (adjust for heat preference)
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions:

  1. In a medium saucepan, heat the whole milk over medium heat until it steams but does not boil.
  2. Stir in the cinnamon stick, chili powder, sugar, and a pinch of salt. Ensure everything is well combined.
  3. Remove from heat and add the chopped dark chocolate. Whisk until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth.
  4. Allow the mixture to sit for 5 minutes with the cinnamon stick for flavor infusion. Stir in the vanilla extract after removing the cinnamon stick.
  5. If desired, strain the hot chocolate through a fine mesh strainer for a smoother texture.
  6. Pour into mugs and garnish with a sprinkle of cinnamon or a slice of chili for extra flair.
