Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup white granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp fresh lime juice
  • 2 oz vodka or tequila

Instructions:

  1. Combine the water and sugar in a small saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Stir constantly until the sugar crystals vanish and the liquid is clear. Note: Don't let it boil too hard or it will turn into candy.
  3. Remove from heat immediately to avoid caramelization.
  4. Allow the syrup to cool for 5 minutes. Note: Hot syrup can cook the fresh juice and change the flavor.
  5. Juice the lemons and limes, then strain through a fine mesh sieve.
  6. In a cocktail shaker, combine the cooled syrup, lemon juice, and lime juice.
  7. Shake vigorously for 10 seconds until the mixture is fully combined.
  8. Pour 1 oz of the prepared sour mix and 1 oz of chilled vodka or tequila into the shaker.
  9. Shake with ice until the shaker feels frosty to the touch.
  10. Strain into shot glasses and serve immediately.
