Ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (15 ml)
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced (approx. 200g)
- 1 (32-ounce) jar sauerkraut, drained and rinsed (900g)
- 1 pound kielbasa sausage, cut into 1-inch thick rounds (450g)
- 2 medium apples (such as Honeycrisp or Braeburn), cored and sliced (approx. 300g)
- 1 teaspoon caraway seeds (5 ml)
- ½ teaspoon black pepper (2.5 ml)
- Optional: 1/4 cup apple cider or chicken broth (60ml)
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Heat olive oil in the skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions and sauté until softened and translucent, about 5-7 minutes.
- Spread the drained and rinsed sauerkraut evenly over the onions in the skillet. Arrange the kielbasa rounds and apple slices on top of the sauerkraut.
- Sprinkle with caraway seeds and black pepper. If using, pour apple cider or chicken broth over the mixture.
- Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and roast for 30-35 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the kielbasa is heated through and slightly browned.
- Let the dish rest for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your kielbasa and sauerkraut!
