Ingredients:

  • 1 pound (450g) large or jumbo shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 4 cups (950ml) water
  • 1 lemon, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon (5ml) Old Bay seasoning
  • Fresh parsley or dill sprigs, for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Add water, lemon slices, minced garlic, and Old Bay seasoning to a large pot.
  2. Bring the water mixture to a rolling boil over high heat.
  3. Place a steamer basket or colander inside the pot, ensuring it’s above the water level.
  4. Arrange the shrimp in a single layer in the steamer basket.
  5. Cover the pot tightly and steam for 3-7 minutes, depending on the size of the shrimp. Check for doneness - they should turn pink and opaque.
  6. Shrimp are cooked when they turn pink and opaque throughout. An internal temperature of 145°F (63°C) is ideal. Do not overcook!
  7. Remove the steamer basket from the pot and transfer the shrimp to a serving platter. Garnish with fresh parsley or dill (if using).
