Ingredients:

  • 5 fl oz (45 ml) Vodka (quality, neutral)
  • 75 fl oz (22 ml) Grenadine Syrup (high-quality)
  • 4 fl oz (120 ml) Chilled Lemon-Lime Soda (e.g., Sprite)
  • 1 fl oz (30 ml) Chilled Club Soda (Optional)
  • Sufficient Ice
  • 1 to 3 Maraschino Cherries (for garnish)
  • 1 Orange Wedge or Slice (Optional for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Chill the highball glass, or fill it with ice water while preparing ingredients, then discard the water.
  2. Completely fill the chilled glass with fresh, quality ice.
  3. Using a jigger, carefully pour the 1.5 fl oz (45 ml) of vodka over the ice.
  4. Pour the 0.75 fl oz (22 ml) of grenadine directly into the glass, allowing it to sink slightly.
  5. Gently top the mixture with the cold lemon-lime soda (120 ml). If using, add the 30 ml splash of club soda immediately after.
  6. Using a bar spoon, give the drink one or two very brief, upward stirs only to combine the liquids without flattening the carbonation.
  7. Garnish by threading Maraschino cherries onto a cocktail stick and/or tucking the orange wedge onto the rim. Serve the Dirty Shirley Drink immediately.
