Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (240 ml) heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons (25 g) granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • 3 cups (approx. 700 g) ice
  • 1/2 cup (approx. 140 g) rock salt
  • Optional Mix-ins: Chocolate chips, sprinkles, chopped fruit, crushed cookies, etc.

Instructions:

  1. In the small zip-top bag, combine heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt. Seal the bag tightly, removing as much air as possible. Double-check that the seal is secure!
  2. In the large zip-top bag, combine ice and rock salt.
  3. Place the sealed small bag inside the large bag containing the ice and salt. Seal the large bag tightly.
  4. Using gloves or a towel to protect your hands, shake the bag vigorously for 15-20 minutes. The mixture should begin to solidify into ice cream.
  5. Open the large bag (be careful, it will be very cold!), and check the ice cream consistency. If it's still too liquid, reseal and continue shaking for a few more minutes.
  6. Open the small bag (carefully!), and stir in any desired mix-ins.
  7. Eat directly from the bag with a spoon or transfer to a bowl.
