Ingredients:

  • 1 pound (450g) fresh broccoli florets, washed and trimmed
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) water
  • Pinch of salt (or to taste)
  • Optional: Freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • Optional: Squeeze of lemon juice or a drizzle of olive oil for serving

Instructions:

  1. Wash the broccoli florets thoroughly under cool running water and trim any tough stems. Cut larger florets into smaller, more uniform pieces for even cooking.
  2. Place the broccoli florets in the microwave-safe bowl. Add the 2 tablespoons of water.
  3. Cover the bowl tightly with the lid or microwave-safe plastic wrap (make sure to vent the plastic wrap slightly). Microwave on high power for 3-5 minutes.
  4. Carefully remove the bowl from the microwave. Test the broccoli for doneness with a fork. It should be tender-crisp – easily pierced but still slightly firm. If it's too firm, microwave for another 30 seconds to 1 minute.
  5. Drain any excess water. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Add a squeeze of lemon juice or a drizzle of olive oil, if desired, before serving.
