Ingredients:
- 1 pound (450g) fresh broccoli florets, washed and trimmed
- 2 tablespoons (30ml) water
- Pinch of salt (or to taste)
- Optional: Freshly ground black pepper to taste
- Optional: Squeeze of lemon juice or a drizzle of olive oil for serving
Instructions:
- Wash the broccoli florets thoroughly under cool running water and trim any tough stems. Cut larger florets into smaller, more uniform pieces for even cooking.
- Place the broccoli florets in the microwave-safe bowl. Add the 2 tablespoons of water.
- Cover the bowl tightly with the lid or microwave-safe plastic wrap (make sure to vent the plastic wrap slightly). Microwave on high power for 3-5 minutes.
- Carefully remove the bowl from the microwave. Test the broccoli for doneness with a fork. It should be tender-crisp – easily pierced but still slightly firm. If it's too firm, microwave for another 30 seconds to 1 minute.
- Drain any excess water. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Add a squeeze of lemon juice or a drizzle of olive oil, if desired, before serving.
