Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks/227g) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • 3-4 cups (360-480g) powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) heavy cream or whole milk
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt (about 1/8 teaspoon)

Instructions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter with an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy (about 3-5 minutes).
  2. Gradually add the sifted powdered sugar, one cup at a time, beating on low speed until incorporated after each addition.
  3. Add the heavy cream (or milk), vanilla extract, and salt. Beat on medium speed until smooth and creamy.
  4. If the frosting is too thick, add a little more cream (1 tablespoon at a time) until you reach the desired consistency. If it's too thin, add more powdered sugar (1/4 cup at a time).
  5. Beat on medium-high speed for 1-2 minutes to incorporate air and make the frosting extra light and fluffy.
  6. For a firmer frosting, cover the bowl with plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for 15 minutes (optional).
