Ingredients:
- 1 cup (2 sticks/227g) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
- 3-4 cups (360-480g) powdered sugar, sifted
- 1/4 cup (60ml) heavy cream or whole milk
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt (about 1/8 teaspoon)
Instructions:
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter with an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy (about 3-5 minutes).
- Gradually add the sifted powdered sugar, one cup at a time, beating on low speed until incorporated after each addition.
- Add the heavy cream (or milk), vanilla extract, and salt. Beat on medium speed until smooth and creamy.
- If the frosting is too thick, add a little more cream (1 tablespoon at a time) until you reach the desired consistency. If it's too thin, add more powdered sugar (1/4 cup at a time).
- Beat on medium-high speed for 1-2 minutes to incorporate air and make the frosting extra light and fluffy.
- For a firmer frosting, cover the bowl with plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for 15 minutes (optional).
