Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450g) flank steak
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons fish sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice (about 1 lime)
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon fresh cilantro, chopped (plus extra for garnish)
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 cup ground pork (or chicken)
  • 1 cup shredded cabbage
  • 1/2 cup grated carrots
  • 1/4 cup green onions, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fish sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 10-12 spring roll wrappers
  • Oil for frying
  • Fresh herbs (basil, mint, cilantro) for garnish
  • Lime wedges
  • Sriracha or hoisin sauce (optional)

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, combine soy sauce, fish sauce, brown sugar, lime juice, minced garlic, black pepper, and chopped cilantro. Marinade the flank steak.
  2. In a large bowl, mix ground pork (or chicken), shredded cabbage, grated carrots, green onions, fish sauce, garlic powder, and black pepper. Prepare egg rolls.
  3. Heat oil in a deep skillet and fry egg rolls until golden brown and crispy, about 4-5 minutes on each side.
  4. Preheat grill and grill the steak for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare. Let it rest before slicing.
  5. Serve the grilled steak on a platter garnished with fresh herbs and lime wedges, alongside the crispy egg rolls. Optional: drizzle with sriracha or hoisin sauce.
