Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup (120 mL) soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup (60 mL) peanut butter
  • 2 tablespoons (30 mL) honey
  • 2 tablespoons (30 mL) rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon (15 mL) sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon (5 g) sriracha or chili paste
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon (5 g) five-spice powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2 g) black pepper

Instructions:

  1. Measure and gather all ingredients. Mince the garlic and set aside.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, add the soy sauce and peanut butter. Whisk together until smooth.
  3. Stir in honey, rice vinegar, and sesame oil until fully combined.
  4. Mix in sriracha, minced garlic, five-spice powder, and black pepper. Taste and adjust seasoning to preference.
  5. Transfer the homemade hoisin sauce to an airtight container. Refrigerate for up to two weeks.
