Ingredients:

  • 2 1/4 cups (281g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon (5g) baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon (5g) salt
  • 1 cup (2 sticks/226g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup (150g) granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup (165g) packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon (5ml) vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups (340g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup (113g) chopped nuts (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C/Gas Mark 5).
  2. Whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt in a medium bowl.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the vanilla extract and then the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  6. Stir in the chocolate chips and nuts (if using) until evenly distributed.
  7. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto ungreased baking sheets, leaving space between each cookie.
  8. Bake for 9-11 minutes, or until golden brown around the edges and slightly soft in the center.
  9. Let cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
